The very modified 'Smilebox' application to early CinemaScope films is something new to me, and this looks like a recently-made and independently-produced test (utilizing the Fox public domain film, BENEATH THE 12-MILE REEF) in an attempt to correct some of the early Scope distortion on a flat video image. For some reason, as you sat in the theatre, you tended to accept the original deep distortion in screen shape and take it all in and feel like you were 'in the picture.' Though it is quite distorted in a way, it DOES give a similar impression I had of sitting and watching these old Cinerama movies originally.

'Smilebox' was developed specifically to give the impression, on a flat video screen, of sitting in a theatre seeing an original Cinerama movie on its deeply curved screen.
